Dan Chambers
Frontend Engineer
Experienced Frontend Engineer who's delivered websites and applications for startups, scale-ups and enterprise, spanning industrial IoT, healthcare, retail and beyond.
Having spent nearly twenty years in a variety of roles prior to engineering, I take a user's-eye view, and focus on delivering experiences that are accessible, blazingly fast, and a joy to use. I care about how interfaces feel, not just how they're built, and I'm happiest where design and engineering intersect.
Looking to join a team that values humility, creativity, and quality when building the web.

Experience
Full-Stack TypeScript Engineer at Hark by SolarEdge
Jul 2023 - Mar 2026
- Partnered with designer on a greenfield project to build a tiered design token system, integrated across Figma and code via Figma Code Connect.
- Built the design system tooling and Claude Code skills that made AI-generated UI viable in production, enabling generation of components and full screens directly from Figma.
- Prototyped a generative-UI feature where an LLM composed dashboards from a typed component registry in the BFF, showing a viable path to shipping AI features into a mature platform.
- Built data-dense analytics dashboards rendering thousands of data points across hundreds of assets using a type-safe Node BFF and React UI, with concurrent fetching, single-pass processing, and caching to keep server and client responsive.
- Scoped and delivered a key feature for a FTSE 250 client on a commercially critical timeline, protecting a strategically important relationship.
- Raised the level of frontend rigour within a full-stack team through code review (emphasising "why" over "what") and steering planning toward existing patterns over novel solutions, compounding consistency over time.
Lead Developer at Why Grief Matters
Jan 2023 - May 2026 (part-time, freelance)
- Architected and built a modern, cost-efficient stack with Astro, Sanity CMS and Cloudflare Workers, prioritising performance, scalability, and low operational overhead.
- Took ownership of product design following UX consultation, leading full site redesign, shifting role from pure delivery to broader technology and design leadership.
- Extended the platform with Cloudflare Workers-powered capabilities including LLM assisted content auditing and on-demand deployment, adding operational resilience and cost efficiency.
- Produced an operational plan covering future development, content ops, maintenance and costs, giving the project lead a concrete pitch for donors and partners.
Frontend Developer at RAIDLOG.com
Jun 2022 - Apr 2023 (subcontracted via StyleTech)
- Took a greenfield React app from zero to launch on a tight timeline, choosing a deliberately light stack (thin API, React Query + Yup, Zustand, MUI) to ship fast with an eye on future scalability. Demo at PMI Global Summit 2022 led to our first enterprise customer.
- Built an AI-powered Risk Generator using the OpenAI API in 2022, before mainstream LLM tooling and patterns existed, using Yup schema validation at the LLM/UI boundary to gracefully degrade structured output. Still in production today in the product's Enterprise tier
- Established lightweight engineering process with the PM (GitHub Issues, Milestones, Kanban), turning tense "when will it ship?" conversations into structured sprint planning, supporting cross-timezone delivery.
- Authored an architecture recommendations document for CTO ahead of contract end, advising on framework migration and strategies for scaling the frontend beyond the startup phase.
Software Developer at StyleTech
Dec 2020 - Apr 2023
- Built a Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) app for a client partnered with major UK cancer charities. Shipped as a single React codebase running natively via Xamarin WebView and on the web, using plain JavaScript with minimal dependencies for rapid delivery and low maintenance.
- Delivered the frontend for a Health Education England ePortfolio system to WCAG 2.1 AA, learning the standard, iterating through testing, whilst defending against competing client requests, ensuring it passed audit on go-live.
- Built a desktop payroll automation tool for a yacht management company, taking Excel data through to emailed PDF wage slips. An early-career commercial project that established a relationship leading to follow-on work with the client.
Earlier Career
IT Service Management and InfoSec at The University of Hull
Aug 2012 - Dec 2019
Continued in ITSM before moving into InfoSec, gaining CompTIA Security+ and CISSP certification along the way. Now paid to bridge those different vantage points, I worked cross-organisationally, mediating between academic, operational, and IT staff, each with very different priorities.
Retail Stores, Customer Service and IT at Comet Group Plc.
Sept 2001 - Aug 2012
Progressed from retail stores into call centre and web-related roles, finally landing in IT. After a decade of seeing the same company from very different vantage points, I learned that the people on the other end of a system rarely see it the same way you do.
